I downloaded the app and now I have a Windows menu item called Google Drive, but when I click on it, there is no app interface as I expected Google says: “Use Google Drive to automatically back up photos from your computer to Google Photos”. The main gripe seems to revolve around the new virtually mounted Google Drive G: Drive that allows one to access files without having to download them first. However, even with all of its glory, the revamped client has evoked mixed reactions from users.
One can download it manually through the official Google Drive site as well. This was followed by prompts relayed through the Backup and Sync app that said that “Google Drive for Desktop is coming soon”, thus requesting users to switch over to it.įast forward to now and the update is currently rolling out. Google had earlier this year announced plans to merge its Drive File Stream and Backup and Sync apps into a single app known as Google Drive for Desktop that will perform the same functions as the two older apps. This is where you can access your settings and add local folders to your Drive.New updates are being added at the bottom of this story… Original story (published on September 07, 2021) follows: Once you install Drive for Desktop, you can find the app in your Applications folder and in the Apple Menu Bar at the top of your screen. The Drive app for Macs is almost identical to the Windows app. Google Drive Desktop App for Mac Computers This should make it much easier to find and share your files since you won’t have to sign in and out of your accounts. Lastly, the Shared drives folder lets you sync files between different Google accounts.
While it can take a while to transfer large files, it’s still quicker than using an external hard drive. For example, you can add a file to this folder from your Windows computer, and then you can open it on your Mac. The Other computers folder makes it easier to transfer files between your computers. Thankfully, Google Drive won’t permanently delete your files for 30 days, so you can recover anything you accidentally throw away. However, if you delete any files in the My Drive folder, they will also be deleted from Drive across all your devices. Plus, they won’t take up any space on your computer, as long as you choose to stream your files instead of mirroring them. You can instantly open any of these files from your desktop as if they were on your hard drive. The My Drive folder contains all of the files that you have uploaded on Google Drive.
